DealKeep for Windows is here: a desktop app with a local licence vault

By · Published

Short answer: DealKeep for Windows is available now at dealkeep.io/download. It is the same DealKeep account and library as a real desktop app, with one thing the browser version cannot offer: a licence vault that keeps your keys, redemption codes and login emails encrypted on your own PC. It runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), is free with any plan, is code-signed, and updates itself.

Why a desktop app

Most of what DealKeep does is fine in a browser tab: refund countdowns, duplicate checks, Founder Track, the AI connector. One thing was never fine in a browser tab: the licence keys themselves.

A lifetime deal is a key, a redemption code and the email you redeemed it with. Those three strings are the deal. Keeping them in a spreadsheet, a notes app or a password manager works until you need them in the same place as the refund date and the "did I actually redeem this" status. Keeping them on our servers was never on the table; a database of other people's licence keys is exactly the kind of thing that should not exist.

So the vault lives on your machine. The desktop app is the container that makes that possible.

What you get

  • A real app. Its own window and taskbar icon, close-to-tray so it is one click away, and a tray menu that jumps straight to your tools. Google sign-in works exactly as it does on the web.
  • The licence vault. Open any tool, find Licence vault in its details, and store the key, the redemption codes and the login email for that tool. They are encrypted with Windows' own data protection under your Windows account and saved on your computer. They never reach DealKeep's servers, and your AI assistant cannot read them through the connector.
  • Native notifications. Refund-window reminders and import results arrive as Windows notifications, even when the window is closed.
  • Updates itself. New versions download in the background and install on the next launch. The web app inside is always current because it is the live app.

Everything else is unchanged: same account, same library, same Chrome extension for AppSumo imports, same Claude and ChatGPT connector.

How the vault keeps keys on your PC

The vault file is encrypted with the Windows Data Protection API, the same mechanism Windows uses for saved credentials. The encryption key belongs to the operating system and is bound to your Windows account, so another user on the same machine cannot read the file, and neither can we. The app writes the file atomically and never logs a value. If the file ever becomes unreadable (a different Windows account, a corrupted disk), it is set aside rather than overwritten.

Two consequences follow from that design, and you should know them before you rely on it:

  1. The vault is per PC. If you reinstall Windows or move to a new machine, copy your keys out first; each entry has a Copy button, and the clipboard clears itself after 30 seconds.
  2. There is no sync and no backup on our side, on purpose. We cannot restore a vault we never had.

Install

  1. Download the installer from dealkeep.io/download and run it. It installs for your user only; no admin rights needed.
  2. Sign in with your DealKeep account.
  3. Open any tool and look for Licence vault in its details.

The installer is signed through Microsoft's Azure Artifact Signing, and the app only installs updates that carry the same signature. Because the publisher is new, Windows SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC" on early downloads; click More info and then Run anyway. That warning fades as the app builds reputation with Microsoft.

What is not in this release

  • No Mac version yet. The Windows app came first because that is where most requests came from; a Mac build is possible on the same code and depends on demand.
  • The vault does not yet import keys automatically from the AppSumo extension. Today you paste them in per tool.
  • Nothing about licence keys has changed on the web app or in the connector: they still never see them.

If you have a lifetime deal library and a drawer full of keys, this is the version of DealKeep built for you. Download it, store a few keys, and tell us what you want next at support@dealkeep.io.

Frequently asked questions

Is DealKeep for Windows free?

Yes. It is included with every DealKeep plan, including the free plan. You sign in with the same account you use on the web.

Where are my licence keys stored?

In a vault file on your own PC, encrypted with Windows' Data Protection API under your Windows account. They are never sent to DealKeep's servers and the Claude/ChatGPT connector cannot read them.

Does it work on a Mac?

Not yet. The first release is Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. A Mac build depends on demand; tell us at support@dealkeep.io.

Windows says "Windows protected your PC". Is the installer safe?

The installer is code-signed through Microsoft's Azure Artifact Signing and the app only installs updates with the same signature. SmartScreen shows that prompt for publishers it has not seen much yet; click More info, then Run anyway. It fades as the app builds reputation.
