Descript Lifetime Deal (2026): Sold Out on AppSumo, Refund Options and 3 Live Alternatives

By Dominique Abbey · Published 26 October 2026

Short answer: Descript's AppSumo page exists, is marked sold out, has no reviews, and its terms read like a non-refundable digital download, not a standard software lifetime deal with AppSumo's 60-day guarantee. Descript does not sell a lifetime plan itself; in 2026 it is a subscription product from $16 a month, and a well-funded one. The refund position and three live alternatives are below.

Deal status: is there a Descript lifetime deal?

Not one you can buy. On 22 August 2026, appsumo.com/products/descript/ loaded a page titled "Edit audio and video like a document", listed the product's features under a "lifetime access" heading — editing, Overdub voice cloning, filler-word removal, transcription, noise removal — and showed Sold out with no price tiers and no reviews. The guarantee text on that page is the one AppSumo uses for downloadable products, not for software plans. Whatever that listing was, it is not the "$49 lifetime Descript" the coupon blogs imply, and nothing about it is for sale.

Descript's own pricing page has no lifetime or one-time option:

Why Descript will not sell you a lifetime deal

Descript was founded in 2017 by Andrew Mason, the Groupon co-founder, and has raised venture funding across several rounds, including a round led by the OpenAI Startup Fund in 2022. A venture-backed company whose product cost is dominated by AI inference — transcription, voice cloning, video generation — cannot price a lifetime licence without losing money on every heavy user. The lifetime deals you see in this category come from smaller tools buying distribution; Descript is the tool they compare themselves to.

Refund window

Nothing to refund. If you somehow hold a historic Descript AppSumo purchase, its terms said non-refundable from the start; for subscriptions, Descript's page says you can cancel at any time but does not advertise a money-back period.

What to buy instead

1. If you want a lifetime licence for text-based video editing, look at the live AI-video deals in the best lifetime deals list — and read each one's frozen-tier terms, because the Pictory case shows what "honoured but frozen" looks like in this category.
2. If you want Descript, use the free plan to confirm it fits, then buy yearly; the saving against monthly is about a third.
3. Run the duplicate check if you already own a transcription or video LTD — a surprising number of stacks have three of them.

Three live alternatives (checked 24 October 2026)

Trebble is the only live row whose title names audio and video editing together, which is the closest to Descript's shape; it is also the lowest-rated of the three. FlexClip is the most-reviewed video deal on AppSumo. Wideo is the highest-rated row in Video Editing; none of the three claims Descript's edit-by-transcript workflow in its catalog title, so confirm it on the listing.

AppSumo prints its refund terms on each deal page; most marketplace deals carry 60 days from purchase. The verified live list is re-checked on the date shown.

Frequently asked questions

Is Descript on AppSumo? There is a Descript page on AppSumo, marked sold out, with terms that read as a non-refundable digital listing rather than a software deal.

Does Descript have a lifetime plan? No. Plans are free, $16 to $65 a month.

Is Descript still alive? Very much — founded 2017, venture-backed, actively developed.

The bottom line

Descript is the fact-check case: a real AppSumo page, nothing to buy on it, and a company whose economics make a lifetime deal impossible. Search less for a Descript LTD and more for what your stack already covers.
